Root Canals

90 minutes or less

A root canal treatment is a dental procedure that treats a tooth with a damaged or infected pulp by replacing it with a root filling. The procedure involves several steps:

After applying anesthesia to completely numb the area, our dentist will use a small drill to remove a portion of the top of the tooth to expose the pulp. The special barrier, called rubber dam is placed inside of your mouth.

Next, the special tools will be used to test the length of your canal and remove the infected pulp. After emptying the canal, the canal will be cleaned and disinfected.

Such prepared area will then be filled up with a permanent material called Gutta-percha, which is a form of resin obtained from Malaysian percha tree. Finally a temporary filling is placed on the top of the tooth for sealing and healing.

After the tooth is healed, which usually takes 2-3 weeks, our dentist will proceed to place a permanent filling or crown on top of the tooth.

The procedure may take multiple visits, and the length of the treatment depends on the number of roots in the tooth.
