Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected under the skin to improve the appearance of the face.

Dermal fillers are also known as soft tissue fillers, injectable implants, or wrinkle fillers. They are FDA-regulated medical products that are used to create a fuller or smoother appearance in the face.

Dermal fillers restore volume to the skin that has been lost due to aging. They can be used to address fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and hollow areas.

Dermal fillers are made from substances that are either naturally found in the body or synthetically produced for cosmetic purposes. Some examples include:

  • Hyaluronic acid: A natural sugar that can soften fine lines and restore fullness

  • Calcium hydroxylapatite: A mineral that can treat deeper wrinkles and skin folds

  • Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA): A synthetic, biodegradable material that stimulates collagen production.

The effects of dermal fillers are temporary because the body eventually breaks down and absorbs the materials. The length of time the effects last depends on the type of filler and the area where it is injected.
