Composite Fillings
30-60 minutes
A tooth filling procedure involves several steps, including:
-
Numbing: Our dentist will apply anesthesia to the tooth and surrounding area with a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, carbocaine, articaine or bupivacaine. The dentist will also apply a pre-numbing gel to make you more comfortable and the injection painless.
-
Removing decay: Our dentist will gently and carefully remove the decayed part of the tooth.
-
Filling the cavity: Our dentist will fill the cavity with composite filling material. For tooth-colored fillings, the dentist will apply the filling in layers and use a special light to harden each layer.
We use only modern, composite materials for filling that are engineered to be of the same shade and color as your natural teeth. No more amalgam, no more silver colored fillings. -
Polishing: Our dentist will polish and smooth any rough edges.
-
Checking the bite: The dentist will check the bite to make sure it feels normal.
After the procedure, the mouth will likely be numb for several hours, so it's a good idea to avoid eating until the anesthetic has worn off. This is to accidentally avoid biting your tongue, lips or inner area of your cheeks when they remain under anesthesia.
