Gum Diseases

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a bacterial infection that affects the gums and the tissues that support teeth. It's caused by plaque buildup from poor oral hygiene, which can lead to inflammation and infection.

Here are some stages of gum disease:

  • Gingivitis

The mildest form of periodontal disease, where gums become red, swollen, tender, and bleed easily. Gingivitis can be reversed with daily brushing and flossing.

  • Periodontitis

A more severe form of the disease that occurs when gingivitis goes untreated. Symptoms include gums pulling away from teeth, forming pockets that can get infected, and early bone loss.

  • Advanced periodontitis

The bone and tissue around the teeth break down, causing teeth to loosen or fall out.

Gum disease is largely preventable and treatable with good oral hygiene, regular dental care, and self-care. Some things that can increase the risk of gum disease include:

Smoking, Diabetes, Autoimmune diseases, Hormonal changes, Stress, Genetics, and Heart disease.
