Missing Tooth
A missing tooth can have a number of negative impacts on your health and quality of life, including:
-Jawbone deterioration: The jawbone can begin to dissolve within months of a tooth extraction, and up to 25% of the jawbone can disappear in the first year.
-Shifting teeth: The teeth around a missing tooth can shift to fill the space, which can lead to misalignment and bite irregularities.
-Facial changes: A weakened jaw can cause the skin around your mouth to sag, making you look older.
-Chewing problems
-Increased risk of gum disease: which can lead to i.e. multiple tooth losses
You have generally three solutions for missing tooth replacement:
-
Dental bridges: A prosthetic tooth fills in the gap of a missing tooth and is anchored to adjacent teeth.
-
Partial or complete dentures: An option if you've lost some of your teeth.
-
Dental implants: A post is implanted into the jawbone to replace the natural tooth root, and a crown is attached to the post.
