Deep Cleanings

120 minutes or less divided into two visits

.

A deep dental cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, is a procedure that involves two parts: removing plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line, and then smoothing the roots of the teeth:

Or hygienist will use a scaler to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth. This can be done with a hand-held scaler, an ultrasonic scaler, or a combination of both. The ultrasonic scaler uses a vibrating metal tip and water spray to chip away tartar and flush out plaque.

A deep cleaning is in most cases recommended when your plaque or tartar became a main cause for problems of your gums. It can help prevent gum disease progression, reduce gum inflammation and bleeding, and improve bad breath. The procedure is usually performed in two separate visits, with one side of the mouth treated at a time. A dental professional will numb the mouth with a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort.

After the procedure, the dental professional will provide aftercare recommendations, such as using a specific mouthwash, eating soft foods, and not smoking.
