Inlay - Onlay

Inlays and onlays are custom-made dental restorations that are used to repair moderately damaged or decayed teeth. They are an alternative to traditional fillings and are designed to fit precisely into the prepared cavity of a tooth.

Here are some differences between inlays and onlays:

  • Material

Inlays and onlays can be made from durable materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or gold.

  • Cost

Inlays and onlays typically cost between $650 and $1,200 per tooth, with an average price of $900.

  • Lifespan

Inlays and onlays can last anywhere from 5 to 30 years, with porcelain and gold inlays/onlays tending to be the most durable.

  • Size

Inlays are slightly smaller than onlays and rest between the cusps of your teeth, while onlays cover the cusps and part of the walls of your teeth.

  • Purpose

Inlays are used to restore the chewing surface of a tooth, while onlays cover a larger portion of the tooth.

Our dentist will advise you on which type of filling material is best suited for you, taking into account the extent of the repair, where in your mouth the filling is needed, and the cost.
